Oil and Bitumen On Linen, 86 x 71cm
The sitter for this piece, Takumi Sakamoto, is the founder of BRUT coffee and creator of Clayboy Stoneware. Takumi’s beautiful clay cups can be found in many of Sydney’s trendiest cafes and homes. I had the pleasure of being able to sketch him working in his studio on multiple days.
This painting is meant to capture how messy yet sensual different parts of creation can be. The cold wax medium is used to mimic the feel of clay, while the bitumen oozes out of the pot and drips down the canvas.
